Recommendations for extra taut Stainless Steel Rounds

Hi all,

Looking to get new strings to replace the TI Flats on my jazz bass. Typically I use DR Hi Beams or Elixir Stainless on my basses, but I'm hoping to try something with a tighter feel and higher tension than what I'm used to for fast finger style and the occasions where I need to tune to D or C standard.

Does anyone here have any recommendations

Roto 66 of course.

They have a lot of "hex core attitude".

For a little less "attitude", and for a surface feel the same as Hi-Beams which you're already used to, then SS Lo-Riders (choose a larger gauge for tension and stiffness).

Super Steels sound almost exactly like Roto 66, but are a little less stiff (the cores are a little thinner).

GHS Pressurewound are much stiffer than Hi-Beams, enough for a pretty good thump. That was my reaction. (Oh, but they aren't SS).

I'll vote for the SS Lo-Riders as well. They do come in 50-110.

And also DR DDT, which are also stainless steel roundwound on a hex core, but the core wire is slightly thicker (= stiffer) than the Lo-Riders for down-tuning.

For D standard and C standard just go larger gauges, your strings will feel familiar and age gracefully. Stiff strings have drawbacks.
