recommended string gauge for an ADGCF-tuned bass

A .135 for A will feel very loose.

Can you do internet purchases, or would you prefer not to?

Agreed, I think you'll be disappointed with the floppy low A and D. You can order D'Addario singles by mail-order, they do a .145 which is just tight enough for A.

However I recommend Circle K Strings instead, excellent strings, and they have the perfect tension balanced set for your needs: Link Removed

yeah it sucks. :( i guess i'll try to have one last trip to the music stores and look for single strings instead. well if this wont work i guess i'll have no choice but to purchase through the internet.

and to think, i was almost ready to pull the trigger on that purchase lol. glad i was able to hold out on it :D

problem is, i'm in the philippines and i don't know how and when it'll get here

.043 and .061/.058? That's smaller than normal.... wth? Should be .150 .110 .085 .070 .050/.055

Dude, buy them over the internet, it's just strings, not much can go wrong. I just purchased a set of D'addario ProSteels on eBay. Unless they're second hand you have nothing to worry about.

The .142 set will be a low tension set, and will need a light technique. The .150 set will be similar in tension to a standard / medium set, which is probably the set on your bass at the moment, seeing as they are the strings supplied with the bass.

First download the D'Addario tension chart pdf and read the page 'Understanding what determines string tension'.

To use that formula you need 'unit weight' data for various strings, and the frequencies of open notes.

Use the frequencies shown on the Link Removed

You can use the unit weight data found on the D'Addario pdf, or the unit weights of Circle K Strings shown on the Link Removed

Unit weight for a particular gauge of bass string will vary a little between manufacturers.

Thanks, I did a lot of maths!

After I ordered them I discovered a Tension chart on the Circle K website and realized if I could live with the guilt of using it ant not purchasing from them it could have made my life a LOT easier! It's just a shame I'm over in the UK otherwise I'd have gone to Circle K right away! Damn shipping costs!

On that note, will there be the possibility of Circle K strings being more readily available over here some time? :rolleyes:
