Recorded a cover song last week...any feedback appreciated!

I've just started recording some cover songs, the first ( of hopefully many) being at 'Tonight, Tonight' [Smashing Pumpkins Cover] - YouTube
I'd appreciate any feedback or advice on how to improve my recordings in the future from you TB'ers

I like your voice - what accent is that (for us Americans)? did you play all the instruments? you did well!

the recording sounds kinda like its in a hole, tho. I'm not sure how to describe it

Ha, it's British born and bred ...It's me singing/synth & bass (as well as the mixing and introducing my guitarist to effects pedals - probably a bad mistake!)

I like it, I think you did a good job, but some of the instruments sound distant. Did you record the bass directly or did you put a mic in front of an amp? Did you put reverb on the bass? It is a bit washy, I would try to go for a more present tone, by recording direct and using less reverb.. It also sounds a little squashed in the beginning, perhaps you used too much compression? I like your voice.

It's a mic'd up Ampeg BA115 (with a chorus pedal in front of it) : I put reverb on the track afterwards but not specifically on the bass. Thanks for the feedback
