Recording Band Live w Garageband

I am interested in recording my band live into Garageband (during practices). What I would like to do is to record so that each instrument in in a separate track in Garageband. I am thinking there is some kind of box/device that I can plug in each instrument and then send these signals into Garageband to record each track separately so I can mix volume levels etc (so I can hear the bass better of course ). Is this possible, and if so what do I need to do this? I have a Macbook and Garageband, which I have used quite a bit to record myself playing bass long to pre-recorded tracks, so I have some facility with Garageband.

You need an interface with one mic/hi-z preamp for each of the mono instrument or mic.

We record most of our practices utilizing a Focusrite Pro 40 and Garageband, or Logic Pro. Most of the time, especially when capturing new tunes/jams we just set up one mic for the room recorded to a single track. This allows us to remember how the tune went together. We eventually incorporate a track for each instrument. Pretty simple and works well for us.
