Recording bass direct? simple question

I'm currently recording bass going out of the bass straight into my Apogee Duet's instrument input. I'm using Logic by the way.

I was wondering if it would be a good idea to put a Radial JDI or Avalon U5 in between. Would I see a big improvement in tone? Would you recommend doing this?

The Apogee already has a guitar input which means you can plug your Bass straight into the interface without the need of a D.I.

A U5 is a D.I/Preamp with toneshaping capabilities, but it has presets so you need to like what the engineers at Avalon have chosen to give you. That been said, a lot of people like the tone of the Avalon U5 and many professional players and engineers use it everyday.

The Radial is a very high Quality D.I without any toneshaping capabilities, so I doubt you'll hear a huge difference between using it or plugging straight into the Apogee Duet.

If you are looking for something to enhance or change the tone I think there is a lot of options to choose from.

The apogee is a brilliant piece, but as far as the converters go they are some of the best as far as I know. So I doubt you can go too wrong with just using that.

If you are looking for the elusive analogue mojo then it might be worth having a look and listen to this [Invalid or Expired Link Removed]
You can listen to different preamps to get an idea of how they colour the sound.
