Recording Help needed

Okay, so my band wants to record our originals this weekend. Right now I use the latest version of Garageband, a Zoom H4n, and a Macbook Pro. How would it be possible to record us all without recording track-by-track? We think it's better to record all together as if we're playing the song, but if there's a better way then please help. We're a rock trio but we're all pretty young, and I'm the techie in the group so I know the better ways to do things. But, being a sophomore in high school, I lack any type of recording knowledge. Thanks guys.

I agree that recording the whole band at once gives a better energy and vibe that one track at a time cannot usually match... However, your Zoom is your "bottle-neck" to recording good separate simultaneous tracks of the whole band.

Using what you have, I recommend recording guitar bass and drums live, then overdubbing vocals.

If it were me, and I didn't want to spend any cash, then I would record some "bed tracks"..... set the zoom up, and record the whole band. Then I'd go in and overdub everything individually.

I've done this before with just a presonus inspire, and it worked out great..... but I don't have those tracks here to post.
