Recording

Quick question... Is there anything you can recommend to a diy'er trying to get a good sound out of his/ her bass recordings? Other than technique and choosing a bass etc, is there any particular rules you follow or eq, di, plug ins you've found to be money? Any bit helps and thanks for making yourself available here. Love your stuff. I was watching an older beck DVD the other day and you guys were dancing around a mansion with crazy costumes... Good times I'm sure.

I don't find anything in particular that always works, but if one uses something simple like an Aguilar Tone Hammer, MXR Bass DI, SansAmp ParaDriver or BassDI, I must say that you can very often be guaranteed of a good, simple, punchy tone, unless one's bass completely sucks. :)

I have to say, sometimes a bass that I LOVE just completely bombs and just doesn't work sonically on a different day in a different studio. Totally weird.

Thanks for the complements!! Dancing around a mansion with crazy costumes is definitely my idea of fun. Playing the bass rates a second to those types of activities.
