Redundant alerts

I like the alerts feature, but I consistently get multiple alerts from the same thread. I tried clicking on each alert, but clicking does not "dismiss" them (for lack of a better word).

It's mildly annoying.

What I would like is for only one alert from a thread, and for it to be deleted when I click on it and go to where the alert is referring. (Or if not deleted, at least hidden from the alert box.) I tried "Manage Alerts", but there was no way there to help this situation.

Your alerts will disappear from the drop-down after your current browsing session ends. They stay up there during your current session for convenience.
