Refused Payment...?

your BL is an absolute egotistical d-bag. if he wants to give HIS money back, let him. but who is it for him to decide if anyone else gets paid?? you're partners, not employees of his.

I would be RIGHT in his face and put him on notice of what he can and cannot do.

and if he doesn't like it, quit.

I can understand if there were extenuating circumstances and it's a regular gig you want to keep that you might compromise with the owner on the $$.

But, that should have been discussed ahead of time and less $$ means a shorter gig or something like that. Either way it was a bonehead move to just refuse the $$ as a surprise for the other band members.

Something similar happened with a band who asked my minor son to play gigs with them. I have to attend because he's under age .... last show we did with them, 12hrs total investment.... when my son went to collect payment he was told "we decided to reinvest tonight's earnings into equipment" we were never asked, never told, basically worked for free without warning... we quit on the spot and I'm trying to collect the $500 legally now. What made this guy think this was ok?
Read this post. This revived the old thread.

Different issue from OP. Real different.

Ms Marie you were right to quit. Taking $$$ from a minor...total BS.

Did you have any kind of written agreement with this band?
