Reissue VS standard 2008

I'm sorry to bug you again with my dilemma, but I need more opinions. On my last post Needed help to figure out if I prefer the deluxe feature over the vintage sound.
Found out I realy prefer the sound of passive Jazz.

The new upgraded 2008 standard, has cool features we used to find on the deluxe only, with the passive eletronics. Best of both world we could say.

So now the new dilema is :

slightly used American Vintage jazz bass

End up to same price, ship and taxes included.
it's not 50$ that will make a difference for me.

which one would you pick ? and why

Seems like every body prefer the vintage.
List price is also higher.
But it seems like your paying for style more than anything else.
Technicaly looks like the standard offer better parts.
Sound is very similar.

The thing is I can't have them side by side to compare which one I feel better. :bassist:

Tough question. One of the important things for me is the graphite rods in the neck; more likely to be stable. I've looked at some of the new Am. Std. basses (both Ps and Js) and the necks I've seen on the ones I've looked at were straighter than I'm used to seeing on USA Fenders. Well built basses.

Sorry I can't help with the tone thing. Haven't compared that issue. The tone is usually easily fixed (strings, pickups) on Fenders but the neck is another matter; without a good neck I'm wasting my time.

I liked the new Fenders well enough to put a new P on layaway. Great neck and it sounded good too. Nothing wrong with Olympic White either.

Indeed, good luck with your search. I played one of the newer Am. standard jazzes a week ago, and I liked it, but I didn't love it. It was pretty good. The time I did play one of the vintage reissue 62 jazzes, I thought it was great. I won a 62 reissue precision bass, and toured with it all last year, about 120 shows, including almost all of warped tour. The neck held up just fine. But every instrument is different, so take that with a grain of salt, and to add more confusion :)

I'm not sure if this has been talked about before on this forum, but string thru bodies. To be honest, I have never really noticed too much of a difference compared basses strung at the bridge. I just recently bought a Sadowsky RV4 (their "fender jazz style" model) and I think the sustain and everything else is incredible. Like an extremely well built, high end, high quality, with many more options fender jazz. And I belieeeve it has graphite truss rods, but I'm not positive.

Good luck, do your research, but most importantly play as many basses as you can!

I've also got the 62 RI Jazz. It's a great bass. I've recently played a couple of the 2008's, and they were quite nice, as well. I bought the 62 a few years ago when, to me, the extra expense was worth it over the American Series. With the new American Standard line, however, it seems like the gap has been closed a bit... at least with the two I played. ... So, to me, it's sort of a tossup... either one should be a good choice... though if it were my decision to make right now, I'd still pick up the 62.

The Olympic White is definately sweet! As long as you take care of the Reissue, it will be fine. Like, not leaving it in the snow, or in the sahara desert. The 62 would be able to work in a vintage settle, as well as many styles of the present. Adjusting the truss rod can be a pain, carving out a tiny bit of the pickguard where the truss rod is may help a bit more. Yeah dude, 62 all the way. If I didn't have a Custom Shop 64 Jazz on order, I'd get one
