Relic finish on basses with polyurethane finish

Can i create a relic finish or that vintage looking cracks and scratches on my 2012 AM jazz bass? I believe it has a polyurethane finish on it. Im thinking about making (or getting some what close to) jaco pastorious's bass of doom.

Sure. Pretty much the same way you relic anything. One of the better ones I've seen was a guy who hand-scribed "cracks" into a poly finish. Worked great.
