Remembering the ART Nightbass SGX

One day back in the early 90's I stopped by Daddy's Junky Music in Portland, ME & they had a brand new Nightbass. I was impressed & bought it & used it with my SWR Redhead. Anybody else out there that used to rock the Nightbass? Do you still have/use it?

Kudos for mentioning Daddy's Junky Music (I don't know the Nightbass, but Art other things) The Salem NH store was my local and I'll never forget the day 4 brand new SD Curly basses showed up, they were so beautiful. In Boston the one across from MassAv Berklee had a basement with many used hidden treasures. The fall of DJM was the beginning of the end of civilization as we knew it.

I bought mine back in 93 or 94 - played it a ton. Had it in a rack with a Carvin 400W 2-channel amp, ran a biamp setup with a 15" cab and two 210 cabs. Spent waaaaaaaaaaaaaaay too much time tinkering with my own patches to get "that sound". Remember visiting the optometrist? "Better 1? Better 2? ........ Better 3? Better 4? ....."

After a long hiatus, I got back into bass after retiring in 2019, bought an HX Stomp XL a year or two later, and never used it again although I still have it ......

That's cool. Speaking of Boston, I was in the Navy stationed in Brunswick, ME & went to Boston to see a show at the Avalon (Anthrax & Rob Halford's band "Fight"). The next day I found Guitar Center on Commonwealth & that was the first time I ever went to a GC. I was blown away by how much stuff they had. My little bro ended up buying an Ampeg 1/2 stack & had it shipped to NJ. But DJM in Portland was awesome - it was fun taking my time & browsing through all the gear they had. It's too bad they went out of business.

Lol I know what you mean about the presets. I really shouldn't have been authorized to have boughten one since at this point I was only playing bass for less then a year & I bit off more then I could chew with it. I wasn't in a band so it was just to fool around with in the house. After about 4 years I traded it towards an SWR Bass 350 & SWR 8x8 cab (THEN I ended up in a band).

That's cool that you still have it. Somehow I still have the instruction manual for it which was just photocopied papers with a staple holding it all together.

I had one and the big-ass MIDI floor pedal that went with it, I dug it at the time. One of the first bass multi effects.

I miss Daddy's. I well remember a dude in the 90s Danbury scene who rocked his Modulus 6 through a Nightbass-driven rig, wish I remembered his name. He kicked serious arse and had such a killer tone (err tones).

The only New England band I remember from the early 90's was "Shark Sandwich".

I miss it too. It was an abrupt closure….I guarantee something shady went down

That aside, thinking about getting a nightbass and running it into my MosValve 500 power amp….250 watts per side.
It’s between that or getting a SWR SM-400 head. Feel like the SWR is “my” sound but….currently playing in an 80s cover act and soon to be in an Alice In Chains trib….tough call.
