I am the owner of a very fine SWR head, but as many know, it has a pop that occurs at shutdown, that ranges from me saying, "ooh too much taco bell tonight", to, "holy poo poo! I think my speakers are going to explode!"
Needless to say, it is something I do not enjoy, but I seem to have a solution for it, that does not involve taking the thing apart. I have two 8 ohm speaker cabinets hooked up to this head, one by quarter inch jack, and one by one of those Speakon plastic clipper thingers. Well my idea, which worked, was to unplug those while the amp head was running, turn the head off, and then plug them back in. It prevents the pop, and seemed alright to me.
As long as I remember to plug them back in, would this cause any damage to the head and/or speakers? There is no noise when I unplug them, but that can be deceiving. Does it work for one type of cable and not the other?
