Double Bass Renaud Garcia Fons

While the term virtuoso get bantered about from time to time, few are more deserving than this player. His command of the instrument is undeniable; arco, pizz, intonation, crossing the line between genres and cultures, this guy rips!

I had the pleasure of seeing this band up close and personal this past March at Joes Pub in NYC. There were only a few people in attendance, apparently this word in not out on this guy in NYC as only about 25 people were there to hear this.

I recorded this with a flip video recorder. Enjoy!

Thanks for putting that up. I love this guy. Can't believe so few were there to dig this stuff.

25 people in NYC? I'll never get to see him out here in the land of cows....

Fantastic stuff. Thanks again.

At the '07 ISB in OKC, I was wandering past Jean Auray's both and spotted a tall, good-looking fellow playing one of his basses. I thought to myself "this guy is pretty good"...

The next night at his recital when he took the stage, I thought to myself "that's the tall good-looking fellow I saw yesterday." He then proceeded to blow my mind.

At one point he played something ridiculously difficult- I think I was a 4 octave descending arpeggio in 64th note triplets, spicatto, perfectly clean. There was an audible GASP in the audience. My girlfriend leaned over to me and asked 'what happened'. I said "I'll tell you later, after I've changed my pants."

Funny you should post this. I was just introduced to his music over the weekend.

His website has scores for download as well. His facility is beyond my ability but having the score will make for interesting reading and listening.

S.

Steve, I'm not seeing where I can purchase/download his scores. I wonder if I'm not seeing it or if they're just not available anymore?

So many great bassists and musicians in NYC, I am very surprised that this concert wasn't heavily attended. Renaud is very well know out here in California amongst all the players that I know. I have been wanting see him for years, please schedule something out here in Southern California, we are world's 8th largest economy, and always eager to spend $ on great concerts. I will personally help promote it.
