Replace the old amp or go with something new

Another plus 1 for either Mesa or Genzler. Reading here over the past year, those two companies seem to be among the most reliable and flexible heads available. When I next go head shopping it'll be one of those two.

And the customer support is pretty awesome, too. Kinda like Hartke used to be. :(

(Waiting for a response about a new grill. Still waiting .... )

I went to the Fender Rumble 500 a few years ago and love it! I recently add the Rrumble 2x10 extension cabinet as most of our gigs are outside. We play May through the end of October as our drummer goes to AZ in the winter. We own several PA systems between us and always have PA support, but I like the sound of the 4x10 combination on stage. At 39 lbs each they are easy on the back and look really cool on stage. One added bonus with the stack the 500 is closer to ear height.
Good luck in your quest!

Genzler and Mesa! I have the Mesa D800+, and love it versatility. As for cabs, Genzler BA series are a new design that are perfect for me light weight and very high performance for their size. Sound quality IMHO, is second to none.

Last Saturday, the practice space my band was renting burned to the ground. Luckily most of my gear was at home but my Ampeg v4B and 2 SVT 212 AV cabs were destroyed. The good news is that I have all of my gear insured with Music Pro and less than a week later I have a check in my hands for the full replacement value of $3k.

I really liked the way that rig sounded but to be honest we never play a gig without a PA (with sub) so I didn't really ever need the second cab. I'm also getting older and even though the V4B is half the weight of an SVT it's still a 45lb head. Those two cabs were another 120lbs on top of that.

I'm thinking about taking the opportunity to invest in a lighter / smaller rig and am very interested in the Mesa TT 800.

If you were in my situation, what amps would you consider?
Wow. So sorry to hear that. The TT 800 and Subway 410 are wonderful. I love my rig. Two channels of distinctly different Mesa goodness. The hard part is deciding which cabinet combination works for you.

Lots of great choices out there... especially when it comes to Class D amps and neodymium cabs. I know hearing all these Mesa Subway suggestions sounds like a broken record... but for good reason. Very lightweight, sound phenomenal, reliable, customer service is second to none, AND you have the resident expert (@agedhorse) available for any suggestions or direction with your Mesa gear. Ultimately, you need to make your own decision. Good luck in your venture and I'm so sorry about your situation.

Sorry about your loss. What to do? We are all getting older, consider weight of the cabinets first. Sound 2nd. You may be able to move a 80lb cabinet now, but in 5 or 10 years will you be able to ? I had a back injury, I had to sell all heavy combos, cabinet. My heaviest cab is 34 lbs. I will buy/sell a bass in a minute, but I keep my amps/cabs for a long time.

So here's the gear I've been able to test drive so far.

Fender Rumble 500 combo w/2x10 extension cab - plenty loud but lacks the warmth and girth I'm used to.

Orange Terror bass 500 - Interesting but not sure its a fit for my current band.

Mesa D800 - really nice tone but maybe a little too far away from the tube goodness I'm used to.

Next up this weekend will be the SVT 7PRO (with Heritage SVT 4x10HLF), Tonehammer 500 and the Mesa TT 800(if I can find one).

It's been a while since I went rig shopping. I'm sad about losing my old setup but it's really interesting to get out and try some new stuff. Thanks as always for all of your help and suggestions.

Well, first of all edit this post to say "While in the middle of a ripping solo, my rig melted from the sheer impetuousness of my speed."

Then, go try a bunch and buy one you like.

My Rhodes Stage 73 and Twin Reverb slay my Nord 6D and two QSC CP8s; however, there is a reason the former only leaves the house once every few years. The Mesa head does seem to be the one to get. Look at Aguilar as they appear to be Ampeg-y. I like my TH500. I run it on a Nearful 15/6/1. I wish I had two Fearless F112s though. There are lots of great cabinets to consider. Truly though, go lighter. Especially if you're consistently playing gigs with full PA support with subs.

Dude... Nooooooo!
This pic actually made me sad. I understand that it was insured... But that is a heart wrenching moment. I have had a similar moment and I know exactly what that feels like.
Get yourself something nice.
