Replaced without being told

You of course headbutted the BL and kicked the bassist in the nuts, no?

Or did you just cave in and crumple up like a dirty bag of linen?

I wasn't the happiest in that band to begin with (it all started when the self-elected BL started firing singers and changing the band's direction) so I accepted it and moved on. We had gone from a cover/originals band to becoming a Godsmack tribute band.

To pay the BL back, a few weeks later I stole the other guitar player for the band I had just put together.

I still think you should have Godsmacked him!

Once.

We had a guitard who took over as BL (self appointed BL in this case) and ever since that we had revolving door of singers. Two practices after the newest singer joined I show up to see a new Bass player there.... I ask w-t-f is going on and BL tells me the singer and Bassist were a package deal.

Package deals are a tough one to buck sometimes. Unfortunately, if it comes piggybacked along with a dynamite singer, it's pretty much a done deal since a really good singer is hard to come by - and usually gets to dictate the terms of the deal more often than not.

So it goes. Roll with it and move on. Then go out and make some other band a winner.

Because attaining success is always the sweetest form of "revenge" when it comes to the music world.

The singer that came in was hardly what I'd call dynamite. He was good, but not that good. His one redeeming feature was he had charisma and knew how to use it to entertain a crowd.

Fwiw, the band I put together after the fact had more shows and drew larger crowds than they did.

Yeah, but to find out by coming to rehearsal and your replacement is there already..??

That SUCKS!!!

Happened several times including tonight.
Played a 4 piece for a year and a half. A month later my buddy goes to see the band and calls me to say I'm not on stage, another guy is. They never told me to this day.
Tonight got hit up to sub, waited for venue info and see on FB that I'm not on the bill. What a poopy business 30 years later.

Absolutely. But what happened already happened. If it's not something you can do anything about why stoke the anger further? Live, learn, and move on. You can't win an argument or prove a point with someone who's a total S.O.B. So why waste any additional time on them?

Well there ya go! Pretty sweet huh? :smug:

Not quite. I was told when the replacement bass player was actually ready to play gigs. (I think there were secret rehearsals for a week or two).

I almost understand it for this particular band, it was an old friend of the others that had been the third guitarist, band sounded much better for the next year with only two guitarists and the only way to get him back in was to put him on bass and get rid of the relative newcomer (me).

Saw them once about a year later, I hadn't realised just how bad the playing was - I was the timekeeper in that band, not the drummer. My replacement followed the drummer and it showed.

Since then I discovered that they decided his bass playing wasn't up to scratch and they hired a new bass player - putting him back on third guitar. All three guitarists now perform with full stack marshalls. It looks ridiculous.

Their new bass player used to be the bass player in my present band.

It's happened to me, more than once. It stung too, but in retrospect wasn't all that big a deal. It's only a big deal if you let it stop you, or slow you down.

One time in particular, it was with a dude I had been friends with for years. We played in several bands together, and I knew the guy had communication issues... but we talked about them. I told him I'd be willing to play in another band with him only if we agreed to communicate openly about everything and anything. Group started as me, him, and an awesome but crazy drummer. I brought another guitar player friend in, and we started gelling together really well in an improvisational type of groove band. Drummer would come up with some really cool stuff, I'd write parts around them, and then he'd play something light years away the next time we rehearsed. We started to bang heads a little, because as good as he was he was really difficult to write with. Anyhow, I went away for 2 weeks, and while away my guitar player buddy called me and asked if I had spoken with my other friend. I told him I hadn't, and then he told me they've got a new bass player. I was blindsided. And pissed. I put a lot of time into that band. I didn't talk to the dude for 2 years after that... BUT, what happened was kind of cool. He called me out of the blue (after that 2 years), and I was willing to hear what he had to say. He apologized profusely and told me that he knew there was a problem with me and the drummer, and thought the problem was me. 3 bass players later he realized the problem was the drummer, and well, he just wanted to let me know that he knew that and made a mistake. I thought it was nice of him. We're still not the best of friends... though he's the guy who introduced me to my wife. I grew a lot in that band, too.

Take the experience for what it's worth. And learn from it. I've played in about 30 other bands since then, and done lots of really cool stuff.

Didn't happen to me but happened in a band I ended up quitting. Bunch of 50+ year-old guys and a younger gal.

They called a meeting without a guitarist and singer. Bitched about the last gig. I missed that gig due to work travel but they had a sub.

They "voted" them out. I told them I would go along with the vote but they BL had to talk to them about the specific complaints. Everyone agreed.

Plenty of time passes and the bandleader starts emailing about potential gig, and doesn't copy the two. I replied that I wasn't committing to any future gigs until he took care of unfinished business.

Later, BL tries again to book a gig, again I refuse until he's talked to the two. He tries to book anyway, I tell them I'm out. Band folded.

I don't like snakes or weasels. Why can't some grown-ups act like adults and simply communicate with honesty?

I was replaced the day before a show case (after a month of rehearsals) by the bass player that quit. Apparently the band only felt comfortable playing with the guy and not socializing or rehearsing. I was good friends with the guitar player who told me the replacement showed up late and only three songs out of ten were played. Awesome stuff!
