replacement for MEC soapbars (5 strings)

hi,

i have a warwick streamer that uses a pair of mec soapbars.
i'd like to get a new set of pickups, but it seems that mec soapbar dimension is different compare to emg and seymour duncan.

so, is there any custom/brand that makes pickup size same as mec soapbars?

thanks.

Can you measure the soapbars and post the dimensions as a reply?

If they are 4.25" by 1.25" (108mm x 32mm) then you have many options for replacements.

What don't you like about the existing MEC soapbars? What sound are you looking to get?

I've got MEC soapbars in my streamer LX 6 wideneck. I don't get the disrespect for MEC's that I see on this website. MEC pickups and preamps are damned good. They sound a little clearer to me than say the Duncans that many people opt for instead.

Eh, what do I know...

i'm looking for more "heart pounding" sound...
i'm not sure if i'm shown what i mean...

anyway, what are the brands/options for replacement do you have in mind?

thanks

Yep, try a different pre. John East is a good one.

i'm having emg bqc system running 18v as my preamp at the moment.

thanks

If what you are looking for are more lows, then an Aguilar or Bart preamp is what you need. The MEC pickups are good IMO.
I am almost sure there are some bartolini pickups that fit Warwick Streamer basses.

yes, you are right :>

thanks for the help.

i should give bartolini pickup and preamp a try in near future =)

btw, they dont have preamps with mid sweep? (4 knobs configuration )

I have a Cort Action DLX VAS 5 strings, which its playing well for me and i was looking for the 6 strings and tested a different brand which was Warwick Corvette Rockbass with MECs pick ups and it sounded very clear to me and i have loved it.Therefore i have loved the MECs compared to the models (Cort A6 with Bartolini and B6 with Markbass and Bartolini) that i have tested.

You’re looking for Bartolini P2 shaped pickups.

Bartolini, Nordstrand, Seymour Duncan, and Aguilar (to name a few) have pickups with these dimensions.

Like others have said, MEC’s pickups are pretty good, at least the active ones, in my opinion. You should consider a new preamp instead of new pickups.

I would recommend the OBP-3. That’s currently my favorite preamp.
