replacement for PJ?

So this is my first post on TB, but I've been reading around for a while now.

I am simply looking for input from anyone willing to offer some.
My first bass was a cheap Ibanez GSR200. I have since upgraded to a SR500 as my main bass, although I plan on keeping my first bass for sentimental value of course.
I have recently been thinking about using 2 basses again(specifically one for lower tunings), but my GSR isn't really in the condition to be used live. So should I replace the PJ style pickups with something that sounds a bit better and can handle lower notes??(open to any suggestions) Or should I suck it up, leave my GSR in the closet, and wait it out until I can afford a new, even better, bass?

Lollars are the way to go, I just throw some P pups on my squier classic vibe and now it just kick ass, I had a gig on the new year night and I got the chance of testing those in a mixer and an amp for gigs, man ... just f*****g awesome You wont regret of upgrading.

There are so many good choices it is impossible to know what you might like. My Fender P/J is loaded with Nordstrands and I am very satisfied. I will say that you may be surprised that the noticable tone difference may be very slight.

So in your opinion, would it be better just to start looking for a whole new bass that's better quality and will sound better and handle lower tunings better?

The pickups in my PJ Fender are Duncan SPB-3 & STK-J2b great tones together and seperate. BUT not knowing what you like tone wise is a crapshoot. I get a punchy clean tone from the SPB-3 and a punchy but smooth tones with both on....I will usaully use both pickups together....my taste...good luck.

Hard to go wrong with Dimarzio Model P/J. and they are an inexpensive "mistake" if for some reason you don't like them. either that or get your ears fixed.

Seymour Duncan SPB-1 and STK-J2. Check the SD website.

I use 500K volume pots and a Fender TBX tone.
