Replacing Active EMGs with something else

I have an old USA made BC Rich ST that has active EMG PJ pick ups in it. I'm toying with the idea of putting some passive pick ups in it, but I'm worried that the dense maple body and maple fret board will just suck all the low end out of them. I want to have a bass with passive tone, but don't want to buy yet another bass, so I'm willing to tinker with this one.
Can I get more warm depth and less aggressive highs out of this bass with passive pickups?
If so, which ones?
If not, do I have any options; or am I trying to cheat the fundamental nature of the woods the bass is made out of?

maple isn't going to "suck the low end" out of anything!

it may preserve and add highs, but you won't be losing anything.

roll back the treble on the bass or the amp and you'll be good.

Yes, EMGs tend to sound somewhat bright, harsh, and sterile. Bartolini CB, Villex, SGD, and Lane Poor, are a few passive possibilities.
