Replacing Speakers

I recently bought a broken Mesa/Boogie Buster Bass 200, the 2x10 combo version. The only thing broken about it is the speakers. Both have large rips in them. I checked the website and it said the speakers were Electro-Voice Basis speakers, 16 Ohm, 10". Besides that, I cant find any info about these speakers anywhere. Does anyone know if these are worth getting reconed, or should I just get some new ones? And if i should replace them, does anyone have any suggestions on what to replace them with? thanks

They are EV Basis speakers. It is odd, I have a Buster 2-10 combo adn both myu EV Basis speaks also have large rips. I wounder if it was a defect withthe paper used. I'm not sure if i should recone them or not either? Maybe I'll try to contact EV.

They are EV Basis speakers.
There's no such item in the EV catalog, if there's a label with that name it could be an OEM. The current offering is the EVM10DLX, which was preceded by the EVM10.

The damage you describe typically occurs from over-excursion, which happens when a driver is hit with too much low frequency power. That can easily happen with EV10s, as they were designed for midbass use above 100 Hz.

You can try fixing them, get a tube of RTV silcone from your local Napa or similar auto-parts store. I've fixed quite a few little tears over the years, my buddy has fixed much larger ones. That stuff is lightweight, stays flexible and is super sticky. I've got speakers I fixed over 20 years ago with that stuff, and they're still holding up. -It's worth a $5 try.
