Requiem For A Dream

A really good movie. I liked Pi more, but the performances in Requiem really stayed with me, esp. Ellen Burstyn. I've only seen it once, in the theater, because it was so brutal. I need to watch it again.

I saw it and it took me a while to recover after that. One of the heaviest movies I've ever seen.
I found it hard to watch too. Since I saw it I've worked with a lot of recovered herion addicts and I can see the truth in it.

However, Irreversible was the hardest movie I ever watched.

my problem with requiem for a dream is that everyone focuses on the heroin part of the story, and misses the larger thesis of everyone having an addiction that has the ability to destroy their life.

ie. myself and talkbass. just imagine this scene...

all that said, it's a pretty darn good anti-drug commercial. i know i've never been tempted to try heroin because of it (or maybe just because i have some sense...).
