Hey guys (&gals). I just picked up bass again after a 7 year hiatus. When I was a teeneager, I decided I wanted to play bass, mainly because I had 2 guitar playing friends and none of us could afford or transport drums. Band never got off the ground, neither did my playing really. I was too undisciplined and my playing never developed. I played on and off for about 10 years, went through a bunch of different basses and other instruments, recorded some godawful music, and eventually gave it up to pursue other things.
Now my 17 year old nephew is in a band. He has a really bottom of the barrel cheap bass, but he likes playing. he's been playing sax for years already, so I know he has the aptitude. I wanted to make him a decent semi-custom for a graduation present next year. By semi, I mean to buy a halfway decent bass, retop it and upgrade the hardware/pups. While searching around for info I found this forum. I ended up getting an older Ibanez SR400 with a natural maple body. Now that I've started playing it, I don't want to part with it. I'm hooked. This time I'm more interested in learning to really play well and develop my skill, less in joining a band or writing my own songs. That may come later. Nephew will still get when he graduates, but I'll replace it with and upgrade of my own when the time comes.

I myself play a soundgear sr400 and have enjoyed its tones and playability for 5 yrs. Mine has had a hammering so I to have taken the liberty to respray it with a custom airbrush paint job although it is beyond my budget to revamp the setup. Though I find the setup is quite atractive.
