TB is one of three music forums I check on a regular basis, the others being The Gear Page and of course Gearspace, though I use those mainly for synthesizers.
But it was bass that got me started, back in my teens; who can deny the power of the low throb? Bass didn't seem so technically daunting either; I liked that I could get up to speed and be part of a band with not much effort -- rarely needing to play more than one note at a time. As I became more proficient, I even felt that bass was less restricted than the other instruments, partly because people rarely paid attention to it. As long as I hit the important notes, the rest were up for grabs, as long as they didn't get in the way of the song.
Eventually I moved on to other instruments -- especially when I began to record multi-track demos. But you don't lose your 'bass sense' and frankly no other instrument keeps up finger-strength quite the same. Occasionally I look for some band needing a bassist (there's always one nearby) and join them for a while; a solid bassist who can sing harmonies will always be in demand.
