Reverb.com Issues

(UPDATE, SOLVED: Was finally able to pay via Paypal, 20 days after purchase.)

I've heard a lot of great things about Reverb.com but just, after 12 days of technical difficulties and apathetic customer service I've had to not-purchase an amazing bass.

I get the sense that I am in the minority, but has anyone else had issues with Reverb processing a Paypal payment?

No issues in the slightest here. I hit the purchase button, log in to PayPal, hit the pay now button, and am done. On the flip side, as a seller, I list something, and then money shows up in my PayPal account, and then I ship the thing out. Reverb has been the best buying and selling experience I've had for gear - better than eBay, craigslist, and here.

Reactions: Being and Bass
Oh yeah, I posted this after 12 days of communication with them. This post is more of an autopsy than looking for solutions/next steps.

I was just curious if anyone else has had troubles; it was my first (attempted) Reverb purchase and I did not have the same experience as everyone else, who swear by Reverb. Even my guitarist loves them.

I was in contact with both and the end result of every encounter was "get in touch with the other guy, it's their problem." 5 different Reverb support people plus 6 calls to Paypal and it was the same result each time, for both sides. Both said that according to their systems everything "looked good."

Shame, Reverb really does have an amazing selection, and I found the bass I need there. :S

(If I can say this: really, everyone else should keep using Reverb. I mean, the reason I am so upset is because it was the PERFECT bass at an amazing price. My loss is someone else's gain, but Reverb still seems to be the best for music shopping short of your local music store.)

If both their systems looked good from both their points of view, the common denominator would be an issue in between them.

In the computer world, the first step to trouble shooting "Is it plugged in?" and work out from there.

Now with that approach, is there an issue with your credit card? Check the available balance.
Have you tried purchasing something else with your credit card? Buy some gas for the car.
Have you tried purchasing something else using Paypal with your credit card? Send me a cash gift of 100-.
Have you tried purchasing something else on Reverb using Paypal with your credit card? A small item like a book.

If all, and I mean all, of those things worked without problem, then the next thing that needs to be checked is to see if there is a limit on how much you are able to purchase with Paypal. It has been 20 years since I opened my Paypal account but I remember in the beginning that until the card I was using was verified, I couldn't charge more than 50- (random number because I don't remember exactly).

On a related note....

Although I haven't had any problems paying with Paypal on Reverb, they may still have some glitches to work out on their end.

Recently, Reverb awarded me $50 in "Reverb bucks" as consolation after my having been ripped off by a dishonest seller there. The $50 has been sitting in my account for several days. After my unfortunate buying experience there, I'll likely never make another purchase of any significant amount on Reverb again. Regardless, I might as well use the "Reverb bucks" for something, right? Uh....not so fast, Kawalski!

Today I decided to buy a pedal and apply the $50 credit toward the $67 pedal purchase, via Paypal. For whatever reason, the $50 Reverb bucks credit was not applied to the purchase, but the $50 Reverb bucks have disappeared from my account.

So tomorrow I'll be calling Reverb for an explanation as to what is going on here. Hopefully they'll rectify the problem, but it's not like I don't have anything better to do than hassle with these clowns (again).

btw, if anyone has an issue with Reverb, phone them. Emailing them is all but a fruitless waste of time.

Have not used Reverb yet, but my brother has run a few things through there for me on his account, and he uses it to feed his amp/pedal obsession, and AFAIK he's never had a single problem with either Reverb or PayPal.

I would say this was probably 25% my Paypal issue, 50% seller's Paypal issue, and 25% Reverb's issue. The whole sale was a mess and I would NOT recommend Paypal on Reverb. But their direct payment seems legit and you cannot beat the Reverb collection.
