Ok so this is a review of the K&K bassmax vs the Realist, i have had the realist for about 3 years and was mostly ok but since i started playing in a moderately loud rockabilly band started having some feedback issues and after much reading and advice decided to go with the bassmax.
Fitting was pretty easy i had to file out the bridge wing space to take the pickup which is about 5mm thick this took a while as i had only about 2.5 mm space.
Once installed i imediately found it to be very feedback resistant this was a real problem with the realist.
The sound is much thicker and fuller than the realist in fact i would say the realist sounds boxy next to it, its possible to get some nice string sounds too or eq them out if you dont want it.
So all in all this is a great pickup that is priced well, easy to fit and sounds great, i also found that changing the eq with this makes more impact on the sound than with the realist, although the realist has sounded nice in some rooms the bassmax wins handsdown for me.
I must also thank Mark Golihur for advice on dealing with feedback issues and also recomending the Bassmax, i would have ordered from Golihur but i'm impatient an bought one from an ebay seller over here so got it the same day, albeit for $35.00 more than it would have cost me to get one shipped from Golihur!
