I think I understand what you're saying. I thought about a Zener diode, but idk how to implement one either. When you say "fixed relation voltage divider," is that essentially the same circuit as a volume pot but with fixed resistor values instead of a potentiometer? I'm okay with having two separate adapters and switching them out for different preamps.Your current adapter uses a fixed relation voltage divider. A Zener diode can define a fixed voltage instead.
If I could open up the adapter it came with, then I could probably copy the same circuit and just modify some component values, but I can't figure out how to open it up without damaging it.
