Double Bass Revolution Solo II Review

I recently purchased a new bass and needed a pickup. I decided to go with the Revolution Solo II as its installation required little if any changes to my bass when compared against the other popular piezos like Full Circle, BassMax and Realist. I had made arrangements to have it installed by the luthier in this area. When the pickup arrived it seemed thicker than photos I remembered. I'm not sure if it was a constraint of the earlier version but this version cannot be sanded below a thickness of 4mm -taking it out of the 'no modifications to my bass' category. The did a good job with the installation. The fit was snug but not unmovable. Upon first trying it with my rig (G&K MB200 w/Eden 10" cab) I was pleased. I am one of those people who have been happy with the BassMax so it's not like I have a discerning ear. The Rev Solo has more detail to its sound than the BassMax. It had a treble bias but I was able to dial it out by rolling off the high and high-mid pots to 9 o'clock and 10 o'clock, respectively.

I used the pickup for church music and a combo class. It did well in each situation. I found the arco sound to be a little strident even with the eq'ing but workable. Overall I'm pleased with it and I think it does a good job of capturing the sound of my bass. Probably nothing new here as my experience seems to align with other people's experiences.

Following DRURB's advice i bought the Revolution Solo II a year ago. It's the best pickup for small jazz combos, since it delivers my own instrument's sound perfectly. The Bassmax has a stronger signal but it causes a slight distortion to the amplified sound, discernible in one of my basses and rather unnoticed to the other two, so i prefer the Rev. Sollo II.

Thank you for the informative post. What you describe is consistent with my experience and helpful.

Regarding the previous post....
I hope the forum will accept my apologies. Perhaps a moderator can remove this thread and append the information to the linked thread from the DRURB post.
