Double Bass Rewinding guts

Has anyone used the Gamut rewinding service?

I did. It worked great. You get an already broken in string back with new windings for $50 each. It's actually better than getting a new string for a fraction of the price. I got the strings back less than a week after sending them to Gamut.

I had several done a few years back,, a few stayed together,, but most blew out the windings after a few weeks..one didnt even make it out of the package, it already had loose winding..the one thing I did notice about gamuts wound strings is that he uses a much smaller wire,,which also effects the string gage.I do wish he would/could use a larger gage wire,,but his idea of gut gages is a lot smaller than any others I have played. That's interesting. I pounded on mine for a good six months before replacing them with Garbos for reasons unrelated to the windings. I put them on my back up bass and they've been happy there since. If your string blew out after only a few weeks, you should have called Dan Larson at Gamut as he warranties his work.
