I never realised but Leon Silvers 111, who played bass on Shalamar, The Whispers and other classic work from the 70s and 80s, used a Rickenbacker with flatwounds. This is a nice tribute/top 10 bass parts.
You shouldn’t believe the hype about one make of bass being used on everything - for instance the majority (but not all) of the British Invasion groups used Gibson basses - as did Glen Cornich of Jethro Tull, Andy Fraser of Free and Jack Bruce, of course.
Another point - although the posts referencing Ric James are 13 yrs old, it’s still worth pointing out he was a Stingray player.
