I was just getting ready to post this. It is a wonderful interview. Chuck Rainey shared so much knowledge. At a very human level, Rick Beato gave an elderly man a chance to reflect on his career and his life. The end, in particular, was really beautiful.

Rick has his detractors, but this is where he excels. He has the musical knowledge to be able to ask great questions and not have it sound like a writer is doing the interview. His interview with Pat Metheny was great and not many could have done it as well.

Being a great musician, academic, songwriter, and producer, is a very formidable resume. Compared to us regular fans, dude actually does know it all.

I will not mention any names because everyone has their own favorites, but one of the things I truly appreciate about Beato's interview style is that he provides the interviewee space to respond and does not interrupt during answers to go to the next question or describe his personal experience.

I did.

I got choked up watching this interview. I wanted an interview like this with Chuck for so long. I wish he played a bass for us, any of those basses behind him would do.

By the way, I would highly recommend the Bernard Purdie interview as well.
