Both Chris and Geddy have recorded bunches of songs with 5 and 6 string basses,plus Chris has a custom 4 string Tobias bass that has an extended lower range. You mean your band doesn't wanna cover "big generator"?;)

By the way,another vote for a nice 5 string Carvin! (If ya go the 5-er route)
As for the RIC,if you played a 4003 at the store,you owe it yourself to check out a 4004,which ergonomically is a much more comfortably playing bass.
