Rickenbacker 4003

I was just curious how often you play your Rickenbacker 4003. Do you have any other basses that sound similar to it?

I don't play it very often, but some records are made for it. Mine is ok, but it has a major dead spot on the e-string between G# and C. I think I got a dog. But man, when I pull it out, it sounds so amazing through some big ass amps. My T-Birds that I've custom-built sound not too dissimilar sometimes; they don't get that bright, but the midrange "sproing" is reminiscent to me. (Listen to Ima Robot debut, for instance).

I really badly want to get a 4003 as my second bass. Have you ever tried using the rick-o-sound output thingo? I imagine some sexy sounds could be experimented with using different outputs for each pickup.

Never have, no. It's probably pretty rad. When you play a 4003, make sure it sounds really uniform around the neck, and make sure the neck has a good profile to it, in terms of flatness.
