If they offered that in fretless I'd be sorely tempted. I'd put a different color pickguard on it, though.

Everything is a fretless if you want invest the time and/or money.

You have to watch for them...
They throw out custom color ones on their Ric Boutique page, and they get snapped up within minutes.

Big dealers like Andy's Fab Gear gets custom color runs all the time, but they too sell out very fast.

Fretless Rics are most peculiar animals. Not a big market.*

*Don’t get me wrong; I have one, but there’s still not a big market for them.

A fretless 4001 was the nicest fretless I have ever played! I would acquire a fretless 4003 if Rickenbacker made them again.

The Midnight Purple color is stunning by the way! I also miss the Midnight Blue finish that they discontinued in the late 2010s. I would rather have a bass in either color than Jetglo (even though I love that color too).

I'm admittedly pretty neutral on Rics (I don't love them or hate them, I'm more 'they're cool but I'd likely buy something else'), but man is that thing bad a$$ looking. Gorgeous.

Oh, no! I love the slim horns. And the sharp curve on the 'cresting wave', which is a nod to the very early 4000s.

I’ve had a Ric bass since’79 and I love how it plays and sounds. Ric could sell me another bass - but they don’t offer 5 strings anymore and they’ve never offered anything that’s active.

It’s 20 minutes from my house. If ever you find yourself in Rochester, NY, give me a shout. It’s a great hang. I’ve had a blast shooting the sh*t with him at the store, noodling around on basses. It’s an impressive inventory. First time I saw the three big walls of high end instruments, I’m like, dude, there’s no way Rochester is a big enough market for all this. He was like, lol, yeah, 75-80% of sales are online.

If I was a Rickenbacker player, I’d surely have a snowglo and candy purple.
