One more thing in this topic. If you’re really into MkIII Purple, IMO the best live recording of them is from Kilburn (London) in 1974. Ignore the stuff they do from the Gillan/Glover days, as Coverdale could never do justice to Gillan’s material. Instead realize that this is from about six weeks after CalJam, and realize that virtually everyone who was anyone (Jeff Beck, members of LedZep, etc) was in attendance at this Kilburn show.
This is it, in all its glory, in the original quad mix that captures the luster of the natural reverb of the Gaumont theater. YFNO picks up at 39:25. Lord, Blackmore and Paice are all absolutely killing it here. And Hughes is also great, as is David.
