I bought a Rickenbacker 4001 new at a store in September. Apparently the store had had the bass for several years. I know that it is a 4001 but I want to know exactly what model it is. It looks exactly like a 4001v63 but how would I know for sure? Does the serial number shed any light on the model type. Please help! My bass looks like this; {}
Definately a V63. No binding, dot inlays on the fretboard, walnut wings on the headstock, toaster and horseshoe pickups, 1/2 spacing between fingerboard and pickup. Currently these are selling from $1500-1900, used. They are out of production now and no longer made. Here is one just like it that ended last week: http://cgi.ebay.com/ws/eBayISAPI.dll?ViewItem&category=4713&item=3771383533&rd=1&ssPageName=WDVW Congrats on one awesome find. Andrew
You're right, the newer C64--designed to be a replica of McCartney's Rick--has an upside down headstock. The v63's have normal headstocks. Great score! I've love to pick up a 4001v63 one of these days... Mike
