Rig ideas....help please.

I'm looking to upgrade my rig, currently I'm playing through a Peavey Mark VIII head and a legion sound 2x12 cab.

I'm thinking of either a simple no BS rig or go with something a little more versitile, like a wet/dry set-up.

I'm looking at this for my No BS rig:

Trace Elliot GP12 preamp
Crest, Crown, or Stewart Power Amp
Aguilar 2x12

or

Possibly the above with:

another pre, possibly B.PodXTpro (because of effects and o.d.)
and another Aguilar 2x12.

Suggestions? would the B.Podxt be a good choice for all around for good tone, and effects? would it serve my purposes for needing multiple tones and effects? or should I look into something else?

I play all kinds of music everything from Blues, to stuff like Faith No More, Janes Addiction, Tool, to all out Metal like Lamb of God. And I play P-basses, as well as Jazz Basses,(all active except for a fretless P-bass)

any ideas or tips would be helpful. I'm not a big Ampeg guy, love the tone, just not into the single sounds constantly, I like to switch between dirty and clean tones, and have effects as well.

It looks like you are set on the Aguilar 2x12 and are undecided about pre-power. I'm not very familiar with the newer Pod Xt's I've got an older one that I will put into my rack from time to time. I usually end up using only one or two of the settings and for that reason I don't really use it that much. Just too many choices for me to manage. However, they seem to do what they are suppose to. At one time the Trace pre was the stuff, don't know how they stack up today. Any of those power amps will more than do the job. I always end up getting QSC cause that is what my local dealer has and will SERVICE if need be. The pre-amp choice is the real challenge and you won't really know what you are getting into until you play a bunch of them. If you use a lot of effects then the Pod might be the way to go. If you're like me and pretty much want to set it and forget it then any number of pre-amps will more than do the job. I use an Ampeg SVP-Pro. Once I got the noise issues resolved it has become my fav pre.

I like several different tones, Hence the multiple pre's. I like the Trace, I think they sound great. But then comes my need for OD, and some effects. I dont use them Alot, but I have several songs that just arent the same without them.

Plus I love a dual set-up with a nice clean tone and one with a bit of growl/dirt to it. Combined it just sounds huge.

Just really looking for advice on the PodXT I guess more than anything, or should I look into like a Ampeg SVP/G-Major set-up, with the G-major I'd have a noise gate to control the excess noise of the Ampeg.

But I figured if the Pod would cover those tones pretty well, I'd just go that route.

Anyone?

If you like clean and dirty, try an AG500. If that's out of your budget, Tech 21 has some great stuff.

I don't know anything about Legion Sound but I never could get into Peavey so my vote goes to getting rid of that. Same goes for anything Line 6.
