I just heard about the death of a great bass player, who's playing has been heard by millions of people but who most--including other bassists--don't know by name: Andrew Bodnar. If you've heard Elvis Costello's recording of Watching The Detectives, that's Bodnar playing the slippery reggae bass line. Bodnar also played bass for Graham Parker and The Rumour, Nick Lowe, The Thompson Twins, The Pretenders, Tina Turner, etc. He eventually semi-retired from music and became a librarian, but continued play, write and record.
