I had the privilege to study with Barre in 2009-2010. A true master, humble and very generous.

Saw him only once, playing with Joe (RIP) and Matt Maneri, Ralph Peterson on drums. They played two 45 minute sets, each went without a break. It reminded me of the adage about the psychology of listening to music….when it’s great, it seems like it’s too short. In this case, it was too short.

I like the ECM recordings he did with Joe and Matt and the duets with Dave Holland. Just beautiful.
