That's sad, I had no idea he was still alive. I wonder if it was he that came up with what I call the 'tug' riff, sliding up to the root from a half-step below, also heard in the intro of this other Eddie classic…


If so, he was quietly influential on a large scale; it may be the dumbest little figure, but it moved through Duane Eddy and surf music, on to punk and elsewhere, part of the greater bass playing vocabulary.
