RIP Randy Coven

This is a sad day in the bass world. RC never got the recognition he deserved. Along with Stu Hamm, John Taylor and Steve Harris, Randy got a call out in my senior high school yearbook.

RIP Randy - your music lives on forever!

I had never heard of him. I read the article and checked out the video and wished I knew him better. He had some chops.

I ordered a 5-string fretless 2 days before his passing mostly because of his playing on Ark's Burn The Sun album.

I knew Randy , he is from the same area as me and we both studied with the same Bass teacher initially. He went on to study at Berklee and was Steve Vai's roommate while up there. He was a very talented guy and he will be missed.

I used to host a jam in Missisauga Ontario Canada with Phil X (Bon Jovi, The Drills) and Karim Moussa. One day, a guy walked in , borrowed my bass and destroyed everyone in the room. Randy Coven made me want to turn my bass into a coffee table. We became good friends, he gave me tutorials in person for a six pack, met his wonderful wife and we exchanged gear from time to time. I lost touch with him until a little while back when I contacted him on Facebook. The news of his passing shocked me as well as my buddies. I think its important to keep his memory alive at least on line. Still in our thoughts.

I bought his discs "Funk Me Tender" and "Sammy Say's Ouch"back in the 80's.
He was influenced by Stanley Clarke.
