RIP Taylor Hawkins

Just watched the Foo Fighters live at Wembley Stadium today on AXS TV HD. This is the show where at the end of the show Jimmy Page and John Paul Jones come out and play Rock-n-Roll with Dave on drums and Taylor on vocals and then Ramble On with Taylor on drums and Dave on vocals… They had soooo much fun, what a cool show.

Really sad that the on/off stage dynamics between Dave and Taylor is all over now. I also feel bad for Dave, this has to be so crushing for him.

My prediction is that Dave will go solo in the wake of this. He'll do a record and possibly a tour with a who's who of backing musicians. It's hard to imagine the FF going on without Taylor.

i think the only way the Foo Fighters continue is if the drummer is an all-star that Taylor considered a “hero”.

That makes sense. And they'd have to become a member, not a hired gun. There are a million great players that could step in and nail the parts, but that wouldn't fit at all.
It’s just hard to replace that personality and passion… let alone a best friend of 25yrs

There may be a v2 chapter for FF but agree, likely someone they already know as the personality must be a fit.

After Keith Moon died, many said The Who couldn't or wouldn't continue, but Pete Townsend said they HAD to continue, as it wouldn't be right to end the band after Keith's death..... Sure Kenny Jones was no Keith Moon, but their first album with him 'Face Dances' is a really good album in my opinion

I think the Foos will take the next 6-12 months off then their will be an announcement on their future... I don't think Dave will just dump the rest of the band and go solo.... but we'll wait and see

It's possible to drum & sing, look no farther than Skillet.
Their best vocalist is behind the kit.

I watched Studio 666 recently & enjoyed it, much in the same way that I enjoy Rock & Roll High School.
The
souls of black
in the film are quite cool, in my opinion.

I used to have that Wembley concert on DVD, but the majority of it is quite boring in my opinion. They slow down songs & play them acoustically, Yuck!
The best part is the end with LZ alumni.

They’re a great band, no question, but they’ve been a band for almost 30 years now. And more than 20 of those were with Taylor behind the kit. I don’t hope for them to split, but this may be the closing of one chapter and the start of another. As you said, time will tell.

Yeah it’s totally possible to sing behind the kit (just look at The Band) the difference is truly being a front man from behind the kit is pretty challenging, and you certainly can’t run around the stage like Dave always does.

They won't have any trouble filling stadiums, it's a question of if this just knocked the wind out of their sails and took too much of the fun out of it for them permanently. They can certainly get another top notch drummer. It will be different of course.

I am of the opinion that given the things going on within the Who in 1978, Townshend may have been interested in trying to do things that Moon's drumming may not have been conducive to (I am a HUGE Who and Moon fan, so I am not saying this as a negative criticism). Also, Daltrey has said in the years between now and then that he thought the band should have split upon Moon's death.

As for Kenney Jones, he was much more stiff and mechanical than his predecessor but his playing on both of those albums he did with them was excellent and he really stretched himself out on the 1982 tour in terms on his playing.

To keep this on topic, at Dave Grohl's age and going through this again I can see him really slowing down. It may be difficult to find someone else to replace Taylor Hawkins in a way he is comfortable with.

If he is indeed done, I think he has earned it and appeared to have had a great ride. I am sorry this happened to him and sorry for him if it ends this way.
