Like the title says, what song are you guys using to start the gig?

A little overview, we play 3 sets and most of our material is 90's and newer. A few from way back like Johnny B Goode and Brown Eyed Girl, the songs you can't escape to keep the girls out on the floor  By our third set, we're rocking it up with some Buckcherry, Zombie, Alice in Chains, Puddle of Mud and other harder party tunes.

I'm just looking for a good tune to open with and need some suggestions of what song you do to get the party going. Thanks! :D

  2. I think "Start Me Up" (Rolling Stones) was the number one choice/pick the last time this question was asked here.

Lately it's been Love In Action by Todd Rundgren. Before that it was My Old School by Steely Dan.

Most times we just play the crowd... Sometimes it's Fat Bottom Girls, other times it's more laid back, like Take It Easy by the Eagles.

  7. Last two gigs we had, we opened with "Everybody Needs Somebody To Love" (Blues Brothers). Got a nice reaction from the crowd, and it felt like a cool way to kick things off.

  8. No Matter What by Badfinger. Good rockin' tune to get people moving.

When we run our own sound, "Always on the Run" by Lenny Kravitz, or "Tush," so we can play as a three piece while my wife tightens the mix.

When we have sound, usually "We Will Rock You/Tie Your Mother Down" by Queen.

For us, it depends on the crowd. If we have a room full of older, mellow, relaxed folks who are into easy listening music, we typically start off with "Slaves Shall Serve" by Behemoth...

and then we follow that with You've Got a Friend by James Taylor.
