Rockbass or dean

This story happened just a few weeks ago. I go to a weekly jam session most weeks. Been going for many years. The older bass player in the host band has some monstrous seven string that he plays and nothing else. Never seen him play another bass. Uses an Ampeg head and a no name 810 cab. The amp alone has incredible tone.
Well, I get up to play and always bring my own bass. That particular night was the first time I brought my new goldtop Dean Hillsboro out. I did a few tunes and the band took a break. Set the bass on a stand and I went to sit down at a table with my drummer and some of the other musicians. Table was in front of the "stage" area and I had my back to it. Suddenly it dawned on me that I was hearing bass noodling. I listened for a few minutes and then turned around to see who was up there. It was this host bassist, who I have the utmost respect for, and he had grabbed my new Dean and was crouched down in front of his cab. I have brought countless basses to this jam over the years. He has seen everything I have and have ever had. NEVER has he been impressed enough with anything I have to do anything like this. I have begged him to play my basses and he has always declined. For him to do this, unprompted, speaks volumes to me about what he saw and heard while I was playing it.
I got up and went to him and kind of laughingly asked him, "what cha got there?" He was smiling ear to ear and said that he had in his hands one of the best basses he had ever played.

I'm a rebel. Always have been. You'll never see me do something because everybody else is doing it. That's not how I have ever rolled. Choose what speaks to you. What works for you. Because if I listened to everyone else, I'd be playing a Fender or an Ibanez. And I just can't see that!

The Dean Eric bass is one of the best "unknown" basses being made today. Nice price, too.
I think this might be my next bass.

Gotta have at least one white bass and this looks great with black hardware.

Rockbass. No brainer. The Deans look like generic toys IMO. I do appreciate Dean as a company. Their bass stuff has never done anything for me. I'm sure a lot of peoplle feel the same gowards Warwick though.

I'll keep an eye on that. the one I played looked fine. I don't see any scratches and dents on it, and it played real beautifully. I just wish this bass came in different colors other than brown. I am aware of the sr505 that's in blackberry finish and I would say that's a good start in have a variety in color. I can only hope Ibanez would consider making them in different colors like black, red, pewter, etc.

Indeed it is a no brainer, but some people actually do like dean basses. I can understand from your perspective that dean basses are like toys, but I would say that the dean edge bass is a great sounding bass. I think of it as dean's answer to the Ibanez soundgear bass. I had one and it was a pretty cool bass. I also had a dean ml metalman and it was a pretty radical bass. I've actually gotten a lot of compliments on this bass when I use to have it. even though dean basses are considerably cheap, the beauty part of owning a cheap bass is that you can have it modified. many budget minded bassists do this.

As for rockbass, I went to a guitar center and tried out an actual warwick corvette bass and it has a great sound. it also works well with effects. even though I haven't seen a rockbass corvette when I went to a guitar center that day, but I would say that warwick makes great sounding basses. plus it seems a little less heavy then I remembered. I've also tried out a yamaha trbx304 and a yamaha trbx505 and they both sounded pretty cool. the 5-way tone switch on the trbx304 seems to give the bass more character in tone. and what I admire about the trbx505 is the active/passive switch. it's pretty handy for it the battery is about to drain. and you can choose to go active or passive if you want. ever since I've tried out those basses, I've been considering purchasing a yamaha trbx305 or the trbx505. depending on my budget.

Okay I've tried out an actual warwick corvette bass at a guitar center last week and it sounded pretty cool. it seems less heavy than I remembered it. it provides an awesome sound and it works well with effects. it's a shame that I didn't find a warwick rockbass at the guitar center I went to so I can do a comparison, but at least I came a cross a warwick corvette. and I am going to assume they sound similar. only the rockbasses are lighter(considering that they have alder bodies). also at the guitar center, I've tried out some Ibanez basses and yamaha basses. they sound pretty cool to me. I like the sound quality of both basses. as of now, I am considering saving some cash for a yamaha trbx305 or the trbx505(depending on my budget). I dig the sound quality of this bass and like Ibanez soundgear basses, they're suitable for all music genres. including metal.

I've actually tried out a used warwick corvette and it sounded pretty cool. it handles effects pretty well. I've also tried out a yamaha trbx bass and that bass sounded pretty cool. based on my budget and testing between those basses, I'm thinking about purchasing a yamaha trbx305.
