Double Bass Rockygrass 2025 anyone?

A good time was had by all! After playing my "new" '57 King Moretone since February I think we finally became one on Sunday night , after one full week of round-the-clock pickin. Nice getting to know Samson Grisman at Academy. He is a great bassist and a great person to hang with. Great reunion with the folks I've been hanging out with for 21 years and counting! Also a recommendation for the zyex strings by D'Addario. These are my fingers after 8 days of pickin. Deep bruises but never a blister.

Hmmm. I think it's time to start a new bluegrass jamming convention -- double basses only. Let's get those doghouses out of the closet.
We did an exercise in Sam's class one day where about 7 bassists all played Freight Train in B and all tried to play something different. Someone was singing it in B which led to that... interesting
Yes, that's the kind of thing I've been thinking about. Four double basses, jam style, everyone gets a break -- while one person takes a break, the next person in line for a break softly keeps the explicit 1-5 rhythm while the two others noodle softly in high or low octaves chromatically or melodically. Could potentially expand it to as many bassists as like, as long as everyone honors the person taking the break with their volume. Just like a regular bluegrass jam, only just double basses.
It would at least be interesting.
