Rode M3? (AKG Perception 200, M-Audio Luna)

Any opinions on these mics.

Was just going to ask about the M3 - has anyone used this for vocals?
Looks to be good value for money and quite versatile.

Anyway these are the mics I'm tossing up between. Primarily studio vocals, but looking for versatility.

Haven't used it myself, but I was looking at a similar Rode mic recently, the NT1-A. The folks over at gearslutz.com ended up nudging me towards a Shure SM7 and Grace single channel pre (about $1000 together).. Yea definitely went way way over my original budget...

I don't see much mention of the M3 there. The NT1-A is like $20 more but I think (based completely on hearsay) that it would be a better choice. I think the NT1-A with a cheap preamp like the M-Audio DMP3 would be ok. I have a DMP3 I used to use recording my bass, but I don't really use it anymore, it did the job for what it cost.

The general consensus over there about the Rode was that it was a decent mic for the price, but you'd definitely end up replacing it later on, and once you have a better mic the Rode is gonna sit on the shelf and will be hard to sell.

What pre/interface are you using?

i do not have an m3 but i do have a rode ntk that i am using in my studio for female vocals. i am using it with an avalon vt737sp preamp. i love the way this mic sounds. it may not answer your question, but as far as rode goes, they make a great mic.

Am using a presonus preamp. I think the rode is fairly new. There is a review in sound on sound but you can't read it online so will try to check it out today. The AKG seems to get some rave reviews but am not sure if the rode will end up more flexible. I can get both for about the same price, whereas the m audio also has great reviews, is about double the price.

Don't cheap out on the pre-amp though. Doesn't matter if you've got great mics, the quality of the pre-amp is very important. I have a Rode NT2A mic, and I love it!
