Hi guys,

I wanna buy an amp, but I have no experiences yet. I play on old German Bohemian bass with Velvet Compas 180 strings and I have the Fishman BP100 pickup.

Considering buying a second handed Roland Cube 100 Bass (300 euro's). Would this be a nice amp to start with?

I still study alot at home, but i want to record my playing. Have a few small gigs in the coming months.

That's what I've been using for years now. With your setup, I would expect it to work pretty well. It's a dark sounding amp, so if your bass sounds especially dark, you could have some problems in terms of feedback. Then again, I've got a dark bass and a dark pickup (realist) with the only bright element being the spirocore stark strings and I get enough volume before feedback to play big band music. Just flip over to the "Super Flat" setting, all other knobs straight up, and you're in pretty good shape (might dial back some high-mids with a piezo pickup). For rock bands it's definitely not enough, but the kind of stuff I usually do is well within the limits of this amp.

Another note is that it's a pretty heavy sucker. The up side is that it's built like a tank. The downside is you're definitely making two trips from the car.

I used a Cube 60 Bass Amp (:o Orange Vinyl) It worked fine even on small club and casual gigs. The BP-100 is my least favorite pickup, but if you can find a used Fishman Model B Pre Amp it can sound pretty good. It really benefits using a box that loads at 10 Meg Ohm. That's one of the reasons that the Model B, Fishman Pro EQ II, and Fishman Pro Platinum all provide a 10 Meg Ohm load into a bass amp. The HPF/Buffer Pre Amp will also do that.
