Roscoe SKB5 slap sound

I have a Roscoe SKB5, bubinga top, ash body, upgraded neck, wenge fingerboard. The electronics are Bart CBs, Aguilar preamp with bass, treble and mid boost. The fingerstyle sound is beautiful, punchy and warm. However, I can't seem to get a smooth, crisp slap sound like my Tobias Classic 5, which has Barts and Bart 3-band preamp. The Roscoe sounds 'honky' compared to it. Anyone have similar problems?

It is that aguilar preamp, way too aggressive in the mids, dump it and install a Demeter.
