I've got a set I'm thinking of putting on my Jazz bass....I am a Rotosound Tapewound convert! Purchased a fretless that came with RS885LD's and I am thrilled with them. I am putting them on ALL my basses. Tell your friends!
They do seam weaker, different, something than the last version.66 is all I use. They don't seem to have any issues as I have em on 12 basses and I change em on my stage basses regularly, no prob. My favorite string hands down. I will say they don't seen a bit weaker than before, ever since the new colored balls and lack of bridge side silks
There was definitely an issue in the late-'90s. Even a diehard Rotosound zealot like Billy Sheehan dropped them due to QC issues (he switched to Charlie Stringer's Snarling Dogs for a while). Supposedly things are better now.I stopped using Rotos 20+ years ago partly because I wasn't a fan of the rough feeling under the fingers and mostly because of the dead new string issue.
I keep hearing that they solved this issue but new reports still pop up every time the brand is discussed.
