I think Rotosound don't make a Nickel on steel, just steel and pure Nickel, I tried the pure Nickel (blue pack), and they are really nice but don't seem to last any longer than the steels. They have cool blue silk at the ends though, which really suits some basses.

the only blue package set musicians friend has is the funkmaster set and they are steel strings

besides that the rest of the strings are actually nickel on steel strings, Rotosound doesn't make pure nickel or just nickel plated strings, only nickel on steel, at least thats all musiciansfriend sells from Rotosound.
Maybe you should look somewhere else other than Musician Friend, Rotosound has them (blue nickel) on their website. I'm not 100% sure If they are pure Nickel or plated I'm just going on what the pack says, it says Pure Nickel on the pack (top right corner in italics)! And I cant think why they would say that if they arent

yeah on musiciansfriend the roundwounds they have are steel and nickel on steel, thats all I can find. I have never been to the Rotosound site but i've been trying to find it for so long and still can't. could you give me the address for it? thanks.

Most nickel strings on the market are nickel over a steel core. I use the Rotosound Nickel 66's on my P-Bass and the longer I have them on the better I like them. I don't find them to have a shorter life than any other nickel string.
I've used Rotosounds since somewhere around 1968.For playing Rock they just plain work.I've found just the opposite in the sense I think they sound better the longer they're on.Unless you gig 5 or 6 nights a week I see no reason to change strings more than twice a year.I used to change my Rotosound flats on my 79 4001 Ric once a year.
Seriously?? I've always heard that 77's had the highest tension out of all flats, even more so than Chromes. Someone correct me if I'm wrong though, because I've yet to find any A/B on the two strings.
They do have very high tension , I had a set of the Roto 77's gauged 105-45 on my Jazz bass and had them tuned DGCF and even then I found the tension was too high , Chromes are ok as long as you stick to the lower gauges
I also find Rotos (I used 66 rounds) get better with age - AFTER the finger snagging coarseness wears off and long after that - they just settle and never seem to lose character. After all these years though, after comparing the feel of new Rotos 
to new DRs
