Rounds for my Fender P5

Currently have D'Addario nickel rounds. I've used these on my Roscoe active 5's and love them. Not as sure about them on my passive Fender P5 string.

I have TI flats on my passive P4. I use the 5 for a couple times where I need some range. And for some tunes that might sound "better" with rounds.

So if you have a five string passive precision bass, what rounds are you using?

I'm liking the D'addario EXL 170 Nickels on my Lull P5. In fact, the EXLs are my go-to string for all my basses (all 5s). I tried the Pro Steels on an active Jazz-style bass, and they were brighter, but seemed to be missing a little somethin-somethin in the mid-range, best way I know to describe my take on them.
New Lulls come with Pro Steels on them, but I took them right off of the P5 I bought last June. Just cause, I guess. I have another P5 coming in next week and I'm going to leave the Pro Steels on it for a good while as a test run.
I'll admit, either of these strings are bright on what I believe to be the brightest, gnarliest P bass pickup I've ever heard. But I like that tone and the tone control brings that characteristic down nicely.

And I tend to prefer the feel of hex-core strings.

I've tried (and spent a lot of money on) the various flavors of DRs, Dunlop's, and others that come highly recommended, but they just didn't do it for me.

I've always been most pleased with the Daddario EXL170 for some reason. Just sounds like a Pbass with rounds should sound, IMO. Tried others and always come back to the XLs.

That's what I have on it now. They sound fine, maybe I just need to get used to it more. It's only been a few weeks an a couple gigs.

I suggest the bottom 5 strings of the dunlop super bright nickel 6 string set (to get a 130 B). Good growly P sounds down low.

DR Sunbeams on my P5…but it is fretless, so there's that. It's my first go-round with them and I really like them so far!

I've been using the Dunlop Super Brites stainless with a tapered B. Gives a nice grind. And you can string through with the taper.

DR Sunbeams sound absolutely perfect with any P Bass as they are a little scooped in the mids so they don't clash with the inherent middy tone you get with a P. Makes for a very balanced, punchy tone with the DR's. Another benefit is their flexibility will mirror the TI's you have on your 4 string so both basses will have a similar feel.

I used to use DR's (Hi Beam's) all the time. Maybe I should revisit Sunbeams. I love. The D'ADDARIO's on my Roscoe active 5 but they aren't quite right on my Fender P.
